Our Philosophy On Insurance And Treatment
As discussed on the FAQ page, Gestalt Madison does not accept insurance as part of being a private pay practice. There are a multitude of reasons why Gestalt Madison does not participate in insurance paneling. Insurance companies require your therapist to diagnose you with a mental illness or disorder in order to utilize your benefits, which in turn becomes part of your permanent medical record. This effectively compromises patient privacy and invites a third party into treatment where it does not belong. Oftentimes, clients do not fully meet the criteria within the DSM-5 to warrant a diagnosis, nor does one need to have a DSM-5 diagnosis to desire psychotherapy services.
Additionally, accepting insurance can become a bureaucratic, diagnostic-based paperwork process to satisfy the insurance company in order for them to cover the cost of the service that is provided. This fundamentally changes the process of psychotherapy, often in ways that may harm the client or impede the progress being made in therapy.
Empowering Patient-Centered Decisions And Insurance Benefits
Therapists and clients who work under the constraints of a third-party managed care company effectively lose their ability to make joint decisions regarding the duration, frequency, and purpose of mental health care. Gestalt Madison treats patient decision-making with respect and believes that decisions regarding treatment should be made by, and only by, the client(s) and therapist.
If you would like to utilize your insurance benefits, Gestalt Madison is able to provide you with a superbill and/or receipts of services received for reimbursement purposes. Please consult with your insurer to confirm your out-of-network benefits.
It takes two people to understand and help one, and the more often these two people meet, the greater the opportunity for creating the trust, continuity, and connection necessary to address what troubles the patient.
