Our Services

Reason alone is not meant to be our master. That is not how we are built as human beings. The whole goal of meaningful psychotherapy is the integration of head and heart, helping the patient to find balance and harmony and become more whole.

– Jonathan Shedler

Individual Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is an invitation to slow down and pay attention to what’s happening beneath the surface. Often, when we find ourselves stuck, overwhelmed, or in pain, it’s not because something is wrong with us — it’s because there’s something inside of us that hasn’t yet been given the space to be known or understood.

At Gestalt Madison, individual therapy is not about offering quick fixes or strategies to “get over” your struggles. Instead, we begin with where you are. We attend to the here-and-now of your emotional experience and the patterns that quietly shape how you relate to yourself and others.

Couples Therapy

Being in a healthy, committed relationship can be one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences in life. Couples therapy can help open new lines of communication – in ways that have never existed – for your relationship to mend and deepen. Gestalt Madison helps couples communicate in a more effective way and bridge gaps that exist within their relationship to obtain more intimacy and connection.

Relationships are where we most deeply long to be known — and also where we often feel the most vulnerable, reactive, or unseen. In couples therapy, we slow down and turn our attention to the emotional patterns playing out between you and your partner, especially the ones that feel frustrating, painful, or stuck.

Rather than offering quick communication techniques or assigning blame, our work together is about understanding the deeper dynamics beneath the surface. We explore the ways each partner’s history, defenses, and longings show up in the relationship — often without either of you realizing it.

Parenting Therapy

Parenting brings us into contact with some of the deepest, most complex parts of ourselves. It can stir up joy, love, and fierce protectiveness — but also frustration, fear, and feelings of failure. In parenting therapy, we explore not just your child’s needs, but your inner world as a parent: your reactions, doubts, longings, and the parts of your own story that show up in relationship with your child.

This is not about giving you a parenting script or solving every behavioral challenge. It’s about creating a space where you can reflect on your experience, understand your emotional triggers, and begin to respond with greater clarity and connection.

If you are struggling to navigate what can feel like a changing landscape in raising your family, Gestalt Madison can provide guidance, support, tools, and feedback about what is impacting your child’s ability to thrive.

Case Consultation and Clinical Training

Gestalt Madison participates in case consultation with other providers and provides training relating to Gestalt and Psychodynamic Therapy, Mental Health Care, and organizational communication and strategy.

Our Work Together

Therapy is a collaborative process. Together, we create a space where all parts of your experience are welcomed — including the ones you’ve learned to hide, dismiss, or push away. We pay close attention to what arises between us in the therapeutic relationship, using it as a lens to explore your relational patterns, your needs, and your defenses. Over time, this process can open space for a more compassionate relationship with yourself and others, greater clarity in your emotional life, the capacity to stay present with discomfort without becoming overwhelmed, and a renewed sense of agency and freedom in how you live your life.

This work takes time, it unfolds at your pace. And it is deeply human.
